Laurie Polikoff was born and raised in Connecticut, but when she moved to New York City over 20 years ago she quickly realized that she had found her new home. “What’s not to love?” she asks with complete sincerity. “With so many wonderful restaurants, parks, museums, shopping and entertainment options just outside your front door, the energy of the city is truly unlike anyplace else.”
Living on the Upper East Side for the last 18 years, Laurie has become an active member of her community throughout the years. From volunteering at her children’s school to getting to know local restaurateurs and store owners, she quickly embraced the strong sense of community and small town feel that her neighborhood had to offer. Eventually Laurie sought a way she could combine her love for the neighborhood and her neighbors with her everyday routine, and realized that her passion for real estate was a perfect way to do so. “If you immerse yourself in the community and truly know your neighbors, it’s easy to grasp what they’re looking for in a home,” she says.
Laurie feels strongly that finding and deciding on a dream home is one of the most challenging and important decisions a client will make. Her knack for working with people, developing trusting relationships and understanding their needs is something she learned in production at CBS Television, a career she thrived in prior to transitioning to real estate. She spent years successfully deciphering and delivering what viewers wanted to see, “just as a great real estate professional must have the ability to understand people’s needs in order to fulfill them,” she said. She also appreciates the importance of visual aesthetics to both industries, using her experience to naturally sense when a property has that certain something that can leave a client speechless.
From yoga and snowboarding to just riding her bike through Central Park, Laurie spends much of her free time staying as active as possible. She also has spent time volunteering at the ASPCA and the Make a Wish Foundation, among other charitable endeavors.
